The applications received from the above artists were in concurrence with Pro Helvetia - Swiss Art Council's current mandate. The jury made its decision depending on the application's individual merit as well as on being able to find an appropriate host in Switzerland. Besides, preference is given to artists who are able to demonstrate the possibility of generating follow-up projects.
The selection in India was made by a jury comprising of Dr. Annapurna Garimella, a designer and an art historian who heads Jackfruit, a research and design organization, Shukla Sawant , a visual artist and an Associate Professor at the School of Arts and Aesthetics, Jawaharlal Nehru University, and Chandrika Grover Ralleigh, Head Pro Helvetia New Delhi.
The selection has been corroborated by Pro Helvetia's Specialist Departments in Zurich.

New media has become a key factor in the development of contemporary art and culture. Pro Helvetia is exploring the impact of digitalisation on artistic work with its "Digital Culture" programme.
From 2012 to 2015, Pro Helvetia is exploring the impact of digitalisation on artistic work with its "Digital Culture" programme. The programme is made up of three components, the core one being "Mobile. In Touch with Digital Creation", which aims to support and enhance interactive and transmedia art work in Switzerland. The second focuses on the influence of digitalisation on the promotion and dissemination of traditional art forms. And, with its call for interdisciplinary new media cooperation projects, the third component, Pro Helvetia is striving to strengthen collaboration between art, research and science institutions in the field of new media and technology.

Pro Helvetia has partnered Experimenter, Kolkata for the past five years, right from the very inception of the Curators' Hub in 2011. Curatorial exchange has been one of PHND's focuses with the objective to initiate dialogue and debate with Swiss practitioners.

About Giovanni Carmine
After working several years as an independent curator and art critic - realizing among other projects and books with Norma Jeane, Christoph Büchel and a temporary exhibition in former Swiss military Bunkers (Unloaded, 2002) - Giovanni Carmine is, since 2007, director of the Kunst Halle Sankt Gallen (www.k9000.ch). There he has curated shows by Swiss and internationals artists like Ryan Gander, Mai-Thu Perret, Gedi Sibony, Loris Gréaud, Shahryar Nashat, Matias Faldbakken and Navid Nuur. He was artistic coordinator of ILLUMInations, the 54th edition of the Venice Biennale in 2011 and was also co-editor of the Biennale catalogue. He lives and works in Zurich and St. Gallen.

The Draft Project
Draft is a year-long project that is anchored in nine cities across the world, and will engage with critical discourses and practices in relation to the public sphere.
Draft collectively considers how contemporary art can initiate, invoke and contribute to public debates. A year-long undertaking, the project is anchored in nine cities - Bombay, Cairo, Cape Town, Hamburg, Hong Kong, Mexico City, Shanghai, St. Petersburg, Zurich -and opens with a three-day conference in Bombay on 4 June 2015.
Draft encounters and tests public spheres and the consequences of staking claim to them through contemporary art. In doing so, it also chalks out the relationship between the seemingly disparate contexts of these cities that are, in fact, always intensely entangled.
The opening conference-and the project at large-convenes a cross-disciplinary crew of artists, curators, philosophers, anthropologists and the like, who cooperate as collaboratives in wound up urban contexts.
Draft is imagined as a kind of agent provocateur; exploring our reality, such as it is, by hinting at the possibility of what else could be. If no context can ever be truly exhausted, then each exploration is a renewal of the promise of debate.
This longue durée project is, somewhat, bookended by two conferences; the closing conference takes place in Zurich in the summer of 2016. In the critical interim, a range of engagements, including research and workshops, will be realised in each of the cities. Expanding on the conference's discussions they will set the pace for the site-sensitive artworks that will be realised in early 2016.
Draft is not 'about' the city but it mobilises this complicated ecosystem as a springboard for thinking through questions, claims, potentials and problems around an infinite spectrum of contemporary artistic and philosophical concerns and practices.
The project intends to do this in a transnational scenario of home-grown artistic interventions, which question the notion of identity in a world that is nothing if not hybrid.
The project intends to do this in the scenario of public spheres, which question extant public spheres in an epoch where dissenting contexts are rife with the rumbling sounds of deep matter, deep memory, deep alienation and what have you. Draft is a proposal because every context is equal parts potential, problem and provisional.

Sound Reasons III - sound installations at Clark House, Bombay
Sound Reasons III in Mumbai presents sound installations by Marcus Maeder and Salome Voegelin from Switzerland and Farah Mulla and Ish S from India.
Sound Reasons is a record label and a festival for sound art and contemporary electronic music which promotes contemporary practitioners from Switzerland and India, amongst others. Sound Reasons started off as a record Label in 2009 releasing music and curating and organizing sound art installations and electronic music performances. These activities later diversified and amalgamated into the first edition of the Sound Reasons Festival in 2012, which featured influential artists, like Bernd Schurer and Jio Shimizu. At Sound Reasons praxis has always been the focus while exploring various mediums and processes like composing music, creating a festival and producing live performances and sound centric installations.
As a medium, sound art encompasses a number of activities and forms, such as sound installations, noise, radio art, experimental electro-acoustic music and music concrete, to name a few. Each of these forms has its own details and depths, and should be analyzed according to its own distinct aesthetics.
Here at Clark House Bombay, the installations presented cover a very important spectrum of sound art like the science/ art cross over work which presents the sonification and visualisation of very complex data from the trees so that they can be understood across another medium. There is also an the invocation of 'listening processes' here as some of the works have been initiated spatially as they explore the timeless continuum of the now and the becoming of an observer via sound. And in this becoming, the imagination becomes more important than the reality, the virtual more significant than the real. The fleeting experience of sounds and noise is the construct of the individual themselves and not of their histories and their cognitive developments. Part of the work develops spatially and its discovery unfolds itself in the present, bringing with it the experience of sound and listening.

FICA Emerging Artist Award 2015
Pro Helvetia New Delhi is pleased to be associated once again with FICA for the Emerging Artist Award 2015. The award includes a twelve-week residency in Switzerland awarded by Pro Helvetia - Swiss Arts Council.
The Emerging Artist Award seeks to promote young Indian artists studying or practicing in India who demonstrate extraordinary skill and promise in the visual arts. Selected by an independent jury of distinguished artists and professionals in the field, the recipient gets the opportunity to travel and work in an international residency and exhibit in a solo show in India.
The Emerging Artist Award 2015 is made possible through FICA's partnership with Pro Helvetia - Swiss Art Council and Vadehra Art Gallery, New Delhi.
The Award includes
A twelve-week residency in Switzerland awarded by Pro Helvetia - Swiss Arts Council
(round trip air travel from Mumbai or Delhi & per diem during the time of the residency)
A solo exhibition at the Vadehra Art Gallery, New Delhi.

The 9th annual Carnival of e-Creativity (CeC 2015) is scheduled to take place in Shillong, Meghalaya from 1 May to 3 May 2015.

Da-Saz has produced a wide variety of productions over the last few years and their music compositions and sounds are always shifting. Filled with surprises and always out of the ordinary their sound is always fresh and spans the whole spectrum from acoustic to electronic music. The nouveau project is about experimental electronic music composed and performed with analog Synths. There is a big difference in influences sounds and composition from Da Saz's debut album 'Jet Lag' released by Phat Phish Records to the new album 'Sulphabric' released in 2012. As Lionel Dentan puts it "I believe in experimentation, trying new ideas... it (the live set) is now formless, shapeless,including just sounds and Ambient tones, floating around, like abstract art... you can decide what you hear or sonically imagine".

CARTOGRAPHIES are a series of short films also termed as videodance, which are choreographic interventions in the urban landscape of Lausanne, Switzerland. The aim is to search for new ways of printing bodies on landscapes and creating fresh identities for urban spaces. In order to make a permanent record of these ephemeral interventions in the cityscape, the work is filmed thus giving a specific for to the interpretation, identity and memory of the city.
About Philippe Saire
Philippe Saire was born in Algeria and lives in Switzerland. In 1995, the Compagnie Philippe Saire inaugurated its own creative workspace, the Théâtre Sévelin 36. Situated in Lausanne, the theatre is entirely dedicated to contemporary dance. The Theatre is host to performances of international stature, but also supports dance performances by local companies in order to encourage their development. Amongst the highlights of the theatre's annual programme are the Lausanne International Dance Festival and the Printemps de Sévelin Festival, which is dedicated to the work of young, contemporary choreographers. Artists-in-residence programmes complete the list of the theatre's regular activities.The Compagnie Philippe Saire has created 25 shows to date, with more than 1'000 performances in 160 towns and cities across Europe, Asia, Africa, the Middle East and the Americas. Parallel to his work as a choreographer, Philippe Saire has also created and directed several video films about the universe of dance, often inspired by shows performed by his own company.

The exhibition "Quantum of Disorder" and its supporting program are a result of the eponymous cooperation project between the ICS/ZHdK artists-in-labs program and Museum Haus Konstruktiv. Against the backdrop of the solo exhibition on computer artist Vera Molnar (which is taking place at Haus Konstruktiv simultaneously) and the curatorial work of the artists-in-labs program in art and science, there arose the idea of creating a platform for trans-disciplinary approaches in contemporary art. Established ordering systems and design systems, the definition of algorithms and parameters, with which certain forms are generated or functions are activated, mathematical calculations, and scientific deductions all serve as a basis for constructivist-concrete art, and for the artists exhibited here. Here, the incorporation of disorder and deviation is an essential and (to an equal extent) interlinking element.
The group exhibition "Quantum of Disorder" presents a number of artists, and groups of artists, who create their works by means of new technologies and programming engendered by the interplay between order and disorder, system and deviation. Principles of order emerge as a common denominator, providing the basis for both artistic and scientific practice. The exhibition presents nine artists, or artists' groups, who offer an insight into various possibilities regarding algorithmic and systematic applications.

About the artist:
Mirjam Spoolder received a grant supported by Pro Helvetia - Swiss Arts Council and IAAB / Ateliermondial in Basel, Switzerland for a residency in Delhi, India. The work Nine Times Nine, comprising of 9 images is an outcome of her stay in Delhi where she has had the possibility to work, develop and create her artistic work further.
Born in the Netherlands, Mirjam has lived and worked in Basel, Switzerland since 2007. She studied sculpting at the art Academy in Enschede and Theatre in Rotterdam. Finally, after moving to Switzerland, she finished her education in Master of Fine Arts in Basel in 2010. Over the years Mirjam has developed a way of combining three mediums in one form of art: sculpture, design and performance art. She reflects art into fashion design by producing individual art pieces and transforms them into performance art. Through photography she tries to capture those three mediums together in one image.
At FOCUS Mirjam presents Nine Times Nine, a series of 9 photographs which represent the nine districts of Delhi. Next Mirjam will develop nine wearable objects out of these patterns. With this work Mirjam aims to crossover four different mediums into one form of art: photography, design, sculpture and performance art.

Mirjam Fischer, a freelance Swiss book publisher and writer will be the Editor of the Biennale's short catalogue and review catalogue. The objective of this collaboration is to increase and intensify Pro Helvetia - Swiss Artist's engagement and emphasise the potential of intercultural engagement and skill sharing.
The works of the Swiss artists will be on display at the Aspinwall House, Fort Kochi. Aspinwall House is a large sea-facing heritage property in Fort Kochi on the way to Mattancherry. The large compound contains office buildings, a residential bungalow and a number of warehouses and smaller outer-lying structures. Aspinwall House will be a primary venue of the Biennale, hosting numerous artist led projects and events spaces.
The Kochi Biennale Foundation (KBF) is engaged in promoting art & culture and educational activities in India; primary amongst them the hosting of the Kochi-Muziris Biennale. KBF works around the year to strengthen contemporary art infrastructure and to broaden public access to art across India.

Percussion maestros from Switzerland and India come together
Lucas Niggli and Pierre Favre from Switzerland and Aneesh Pradhan from India will come together this March at the Peninsula Studios in Delhi.
An initiative of Pro Helvetia New Delhi to bring together maestro percussionists from Switzerland and India to create work during a 4day intensive workshop. This initiative is towards a long term potential project of organizing a tour for the artists later in India.
Lucas Niggli, Pierre Favre from Switzerland and Aneesh Pradhan from India will come together to work from 9- 12 March 2015 at Peninsula Studios in Delhi. They will do a recording session on 13 March and present their work to an audience on 14 March 2015.

Aneesh Pradhan
A disciple of tabla maestro Pandit Nikhil Ghosh, Aneesh Pradhan is a leading tabla soloist and accompanist to vocal and instrumental music and dance. He has inherited from his guru a considerable repertoire of traditional tabla solo compositions from the Delhi, Ajrada, Lucknow, Farrukhabad and Punjabgharanas. A recipient of several awards, Aneesh is a popular performer for classical and inter-cultural music concerts at most prestigious concerts and festivals in the country and overseas. He is an Adjunct Research Fellow at the India Research Centre, Macquarie University, Australia. He was also a Research Fellow at the Department of Media, Music and Cultural Studies, Macquarie University, Australia. He regularly conducts lecture-demonstrations, workshops and participates in seminars, at various universities and other educational institutions in India and abroad. His teaching assignments in the past include short terms as artist-in-residence at the University of New England, Australia, and as guest lecturer at the Music Department, University of Mumbai.
Aneesh has a doctoral degree in History from the University of Mumbai. A keen researcher of trends in performance, music education and patronage that unfolded in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century, he writes frequently on music for newspapers, journals and other publications in India and abroad. He is deeply involved in creating and developing educational material related to Indian music and is the author of a children's book on tabla and a recent publication entitled Tabla: A Performer's Perspective. Aneesh is Founder-Director of Underscore Records, an independent online record label that he established with vocalist Shubha Mudgal. Along with Shubha, Aneesh also curates a festival called Baajaa Gaajaa: Music from 21st Century India which celebrates and showcases the diversity of music from India.

The screening will be followed with a conversation between the artists and architect Moulshri Joshi, whose firm Space Matters is working on the redevelopment of the former Union Carbide factory in Bhopal into a memorial.
The discussion will be moderated by architect Madhav Raman.
About the FilmTsunami Architecture (60 min, 2012) looks at the aftermath of the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami, one of the worst natural catastrophes in history. Artists Christoph Draeger and Heidrun Holzfeind visited the affected sites six years later, when international attention had long faded. Yet post-tsunami challenges continued to have an impact on affected communities. On a three month trip from December 2010 to February 2011 the two visited the five countries most affected - Thailand, Aceh/Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Maldives and India and investigated the current state of architecture built or reconstructed in the aftermath of the tsunami. Using video and photography, they documented the long-term effects of the disaster through conversations with survivors, eyewitnesses, aid workers and rescue personnel. They also established a collection of footage of the disaster and the reconstruction efforts. They were interested in how the flood of aid money has transformed the affected regions, rebuilt and refashioned local economies and shaped communities. How does collective and individual memory work, years after such a highly publicized media mega-event? How has architecture built after the Tsunami been able to respond to the individual needs of affected communities? How were these communities able to participate in the recovery process? How have these structures been adapted over time by their inhabitants, and how did architectural interventions alter societal and communal structures? Their research trip and the filming was finished just weeks before the Fukushima disaster.
About Christoph Draeger
Christoph Draeger is a conceptual artist who has been working on themes of disaster and destruction for over 20 years. His projects take form in installation, video, and photo-based media to explore issues pertaining to catastrophe and media-saturated culture. Swiss photographers, Sophie Brasey and Joël Tettamanti, and curator Hélène Joye-Cagnard (Director, Bienne Festival of Photography) will participate in the festival. Besides the exhibitions, the catalogue will include photo essays by the two Swiss photographers and an introductory text by Hélène Joye-Cagnard.

Goa Photo 2015 will be the first edition of an annual international photography festival to be held across the city of Panaji between the 25th of February and the 7th of March 2015. Over a period of ten days, the festival will transform the city into a platform for showcasing contemporary photography. Goa Photo 2015 is a photography festival that will bring to Panaji (Goa's capital) a finely curated selection of international photography exhibitions organized around the theme of The Other, which is an exploration of portraiture.

The work presented by Compagnie Linga makes use of the dominant role of science and technology as adjuncts to the human body, illustrating the complexity and ambiguity of our relationship with technology. Where we fear the never-ending flows of data that might ultimately overwhelm our bodies, the dancers transmute these flows, subduing and resisting them. By re-appropriating the measurement devices they show the human body in a new light - and give it a new resonance, too, with sounds created using gyroscopes, accelerometers and other technologies, transforming the performance space.
The music of re-mapping the body is entirely created by the movements of the dancers.
In a sound 'system' developed in association with Christophe Calpini, dancers explore a new relationship with their bodies augmented by the possibility of making sound, a laboratory, through which the dancers rediscover their bodies, with moments of intense sensuality. By offering spectators the representation of a hybrid body, still inhabited by the emotion of human interactions, re-mapping the body once again shows how the language of art provides a means of exploring and enacting new alliances.

About the workshop // Liquid Bodies
The workshop will develop a technical work based on the relation to gravity, imbalance, fluidity, energy and the precision of the movement.The analysis of the internal paths of the body, of the "anatomy" of the gesture, allows exploring several amplifications and qualities of movement with a new authenticity.Some choreographic phrases of our productions will be learned, in order to research movement entirely experienced into the space.
About Marco Cantalupo
Marco Cantalupo - choreographer - (Italy) studied at The Scala Theatre Ballet School in Milan followed by the Hamburg Opera Ballet School, where he graduated. Several stays in the US gave him the opportunity to work with the choreographer Daniel Ezralow (Momix, ISO). He danced with the Hamburg Opera, and then as a soloist with the Staatstheather Gelsenkirchen, the National Ballet of Portugal, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Stadttheater Bern and the Béjart Ballet Lausanne. He choreographed for a number of independent projects in Italy before founding LINGA with Katarzyna Gdaniec.
About Compagnie LINGA
After an important and international career as dancers, Katarzyna Gdaniec and Marco Cantalupo founded the linga company in 1992. As early as 1993 they are offered residency at L'Octogone Théâtre de Pully , a national stage located in Lausanne (CH), where they create a permanent space dedicated to choreographic research. Several prizes (Hanover Choreography Competition, Leonide Massine Prize in Positano, etc.) have been awarded to the company's choreographers, whose language and artistic concepts quickly entered the repertoire of other companies as Dresden, Florence, Ankara Opera's house, Mannheim National Theater, Portugal National Ballet.The choreographic process of the company has rapidly turned to political and social issues, exploring through dance social phenomena and their repercussions on the bodies. With go! (2004), a piece on immigration, the company developed a hybrid style, integrating a dance theatre research. emballe-moi (2005) denounced the mechanisms of consumer society, la kitchen (2006) dared to speak about domestic violence, mucus and angels (2007) questioned femininity, speeed (2007) queried our society's fascination with speed, kiss me good night (2008) confronted the nocturnal world and carnal desire, no.thing (2010) wanted to portray a gesture as something unique, falling grace (2011) explored the relationship between balance and lost of balance.
Today, with more than 40 creations, linga has become one of the leading contemporary dance companies in Switzerland and is invited to the most important events on the international scene.

About Black Out:
With materiality at the centre of the performance where dancers leave traces of their movement on a floor strewn with black granules, Black Out is an elegy to our darker side, and an appeal for self-contemplation. The proximity of an audience to this shape-shifting piece does not allow a moment of change, however small, to go unnoticed, making one ask: is this intimacy or is this voyeurism? The choreographer Philippe Saire describes this piece as being at the 'crossroads of dance and visual art'. It bears both, a plenitude of movement and Saire's fondness for drawing.

Swiss representation at IGNITE! 2015
Pro Helvetia presents A Dream of Silence by an independent choreographer and dancer, Rakesh MPS who currently lives and works in Zurich. Filmmaker, Frédéric Lombard has been invited to document the festival.
Fluid territorial boundaries define the lives of the millennial generation of contemporary performers. With the objective of giving a platform to Indian contemporary dance practitioners who have furthered their engagement with contemporary technique, improvisation and choreography in their work as performers in Europe, IGNITE! 2015 has invited Rakesh MPS and Saju Hari, whose choreographic practice encompasses this intercontinental experience, emerging from their identity as Indian-origin artists who frequently work within the European context.

Rakesh MPS [India / Switzerland] A Dream of Silence
What is free will? How and when will I be free? The conflict of the self with the outside is not just a superficial one. The artist believes that it impacts the collective consciousness. The only choice available is to shut out the sensorial world which, in itself, proves to be limited by its own constraints. Eventually, the artist finds a way out through a final act of expressing his free will.
Rakesh started his career as a Bollywood dancer. Since 2003, he has been doing contemporary dance. He was associated with Attakkalari Centre for Movement Arts for five years. He participated in the Apprenticeship Program with the Magpie Umbrella Organization under the direction of Katie Duck. Since 2009, Rakesh has worked as a contemporary dance teacher, teaching at many prestigious dance festivals and companies across India and Europe. An independent choreographer and dancer, he now lives and works in Zurich, Switzerland.

Frédéric Lombard at IGNITE 2015
Gati Dance Forum, the organizers of IGNITE!, a festival of contemporary dance to be held in Delhi in January 2015 have invited filmmaker and video artist, Frédéric Lombard to create a film on the works of participating artists.
Gati Dance Forum had earlier in December 2011, invited Frédéric Lombard to participate in the Yellow Line Project along with Indian choreographer Surjit Nongmeikapam. The Yellow Line Project (YLP) aimed to create an experimental space for collaborative interactions between dance, film and the city of New Delhi.
