The Helvetia Park exhibition, a core element of the Swiss Arts Council’s «Ménage – Culture and Politics in Conversation» programme is on show in Bellinzona until 23 January 2011. [dated November 2010]
After starting out in Neuchâtel in 2009, the Helvetia Park travelling exhibition’s latest port of call is Bellinzona in Ticino, where it will stay from 16 October 2010 to 23 January 2011. Castelgrande and the cantonal library in Bellinzona are transformed into a unique fairground with attractions such as the carousel of never-ending rituals, a ghost train through the dark world of cultural policy scandals and a shooting gallery featuring protagonists of the cultural scene as targets.
The exhibition, created by the Musée d’Ethnographie in Neuchâtel (MEN), is an integral part of Pro Helvetia’s «Ménage – Culture and Politics in Conversation» programme. With this programme, the Swiss Arts Council explores the role and various perceptions of culture in Switzerland and aims to stimulate the frequently arduous dialogue between the worlds of arts and politics.
In collaboration with the city of Bellinzona, the Ticino tourist board, the cantonal archives and the cantonal library of Bellinzona, various components of the Helvetia Park exhibition have been adapted to the specific conditions of Switzerland’s Italian-speaking region. The agenda also includes local cultural policy debates and artistic interventions.
